From humble beginnings in 1969 to becoming Thompson’s premier powersports destination, Nickel City Motors has always been about more than machines—it’s about people, passion, and community.

Dennis and Wilma Grandbois first set up shop in the budding northern town, moving their five children north to begin what would become a family legacy. Within just three years, their small Ski-Doo and automotive dealership had already outgrown its first home, expanding into the old bus station on Station Road. For over three decades, that location became a trusted hub for locals looking for reliable products and service.

In 2000, the next generation—siblings Wendy and Steve Grandbois—took the helm. With the support of their family, they deepened community ties and built a strong, close-knit team. Their commitment to customer satisfaction remained steadfast: ensuring that everyone who walked through the doors felt welcomed, valued, and supported.

The growth didn’t stop there. By 2010, Nickel City Motors had once again expanded, opening a 20,000 square foot superstore on Severn Crescent. The move allowed for larger showrooms, modern service facilities, and the space to showcase even more of the brand-name products customers love.

Of course, the years 2019–2023 brought challenges for everyone. Social events were fewer, and community connections were harder to maintain. Yet through it all, Nickel City Motors never stopped being Thompson’s “One Stop Fun Shop.” Whether providing parts to keep machines in motion or supplying new rides to keep spirits high, the team stood by their mission: 100% customer satisfaction.

Today, those lessons have made Nickel City Motors stronger, more efficient, and ready for the future. As the dealership continues to grow alongside Thompson, one thing remains unchanged—wherever the ride takes you, Nickel City Motors will be there.
