About Us
2019 - 2023 has been a hard time for everyone and Nickel City Motors is no exception. Less social events meant our involvement with the community was harder to see, but we never stopped being your One Stop Fun Shop! Whether providing parts to keep your machines in motion or new machines, we've been there: helping you keep your sanity intact. Keeping your satisfaction at 100% during these years has taught us a lot and helped us to streamline the processes that needed it. Those lessons will serve us well as we Ride with you, wherever you take us next!
By 2009, Nickel City Motors' business had out-grown the Station Road location and began plans to expand again. In 2010, the business moved to its new 20,000 square foot superstore on Severn Crescent allowing for a modern service and parts facility as well as larger indoor and outdoor showrooms. The new store brought new faces to the team, but the dedication to customer service and the business philosophy remained the same; Nickel City Motors strives to do whatever possible to ensure that every customer walking through the doors is 100% satisfied.
In the year 2000, the sister and brother team of Wendy and Steve Grandbois took over the helm of the business while the rest of the family remained close as a support system. Wendy and Steve continued where their father had left off, cementing the already strong relationships with the community and assembling a close knit team of employees to continue providing the level of service customers had come to expect from the family-owned business.
The Nickel City Motors story began in 1969, before Thompson was even incorporated as a city. Dennis and Wilma Grandbois moved with their five children; Wendy; Darren; Brent; Steve; and Deanna to the tiny northern community to set up shop and grow with the town. And grow they did! Within three years the then Ski-Doo and automotive dealership expanded to the old bus station on Station Road – they would call this location home for the next three and a half decades. The city of Thompson evolved during those years, as did Nickel City Motors, ultimately finding an ideal mix of brand name products and quality service.
